The Matinee Cabaret

1st Saturday Each Month Sept 2023 - June 2024

Saturday 2:00pm-4:00pm

Ages: Vocalists ages 13+

Instructors: David M. Glasgow

Tuition for the event is $40 per student—or a student can offset their tuition by recruiting four audience participants to sponsor them (see below)!

A step up on the “performance anxiety” scale from the Vocal Performance Masterclass, but not quite so high-stakes as the Spring Studio Showcase, the Matinee Cabaret offers students an opportunity to work closely with live professional instrumentalists in a casual workshop environment—and their family and friends an opportunity to relax over drinks and nibblies as they observe and even comment on the process by which a performer hones their craft and prepares for the stage!

From 2 to 4 PM on the first Saturday of each month (September through June), voice students take the stage in the upstairs common room of The Perfect 5th, accompanied by a small combo of professional instrumentalists*—me on piano, Allen “Cool Ginger” Roth on bass, and Dani Fiore (The Most Sensitive Drummer in Central PA™) of Empowered Music Education—to perform two pieces, get feedback from the pros and the audience alike, and experiment with ways to incorporate that feedback into their performance. (It’s SO much fun!)

Vocalists age 13 and above who are interested in performing at a Matinee Cabaret should complete this application form. Tuition for the event is $40 per student—or a student can offset their tuition by recruiting four audience participants to sponsor them (see below)!

Audience participants are a big part of the fun too! A $10 ticket purchase buys a seat, a (family-friendly) beverage, and a snack to enjoy during the event, plus the opportunity to enjoy and collaborate in the music-making process through observations and comments! Audience participants also have the opportunity to sponsor performers with whom they have a connection—up to four audience members may sponsor each individual performer at each event. (Audience members of all ages are welcome, but please note that we do not filter repertory with family considerations in mind.) It is very helpful if audience members are able to pre-register for each event using this form.

Of course, please feel free to contact me directly if you have questions about the Matinee Cabaret!

*Instrumentalists by availability.

Vocal Performance Master Class

3rd Saturday Each Month Sept 2023 - May 2024

Saturday 10:00am-12:00pm

Ages: all

Instructors: David M. Glasgow

First VPMC Class is Free; Tuition for subsequent classes of $40.00 per student per session is due before class begins and may be paid online or in person.)

Singing in the shower? AWESOME. Singing for an audience? Mmmmaybe not so much. At least until you’ve convinced your inner diva that they really CAN shine when other people are listening!

Whether you’re new to performing, preparing for an audition, or just struggling with plain ol’ stage fright, come join a supportive community of fellow shy-and-formerly-so singers, and nurture the star within!

From 10 AM to noon on the third Saturday of each month (September through May), I offer a workshop in “master class” format for students and performers (of all ages) interested in improving their vocal technique, honing their performance skills, and overcoming stage fright. The class gathers in the upstairs common room of The Perfect 5th, with each student performer getting up to 30 minutes of dedicated time (depending on course enrollment) to perform a song or monologue and “workshop it” with feedback from me and the other students in the room.

Your first VPMC class is free! Tuition for subsequent classes of $40 per student per session. Tuition is due before class begins and may be paid online or in person

Maximum enrollment for each session is 12 performers, but friends, family members, etc. are welcome to attend as observers free of charge (space permitting).
