Molly Shortridge's Summary
Molly Shortridge studied flute and music therapy at Temple University. She studied with many teachers, most notably with David Cramer (associate principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra) and more recently, concert soloist Clifford Tretick.
While living in Philadelphia, she was a music therapist in the adult mental health field, and continually taught flute lessons, beginners to advanced, children, teens and adult students. Molly is passionate about teaching privately and has had several successful students, one of which made PMEA State band 2 years in a row, 1st chair. She also was an adjunct flute instructor for the Blue Mountain Chamber Music Festival.
When in high school in Dillsburg, she successfully auditioned for district band for many years and also participated in regional bands and orchestras. She was first chair in Harrisburg Youth Symphony, and was one of two chosen from Pennsylvania to participate in the American High School Flute Choir sponsored by the National Flute Association, and was a Harrisburg Wednesday Club scholarship winner.
Presently, she regularly free-lances in this area and has played in the Central Pennsylvania Oratorio Orchestra, flute quartets, pit orchestras, the Carlisle Musical Arts Club, and several other chamber and choral ensembles in the greater Harrisburg region. She has also played at the governor's mansion and for The York Strand Theater's opening season galas. In 2012, she toured and performed solo and choral works on her flute in a series of concerts in central Italy with The Market Square Singers, led by Eric Riley.
While homeschooling her own children, she developed music classes for various ages and taught recorder in homeschool co-operatives. Currently, she is pursuing her Masters in Counseling at Messiah College while maintaining a flute studio.
Molly teaches on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
